Summary

Organization

  1. In the header, the Director-General of UNESCO captures the essence of the IACEA mission. The Association has successfully conducted its programme for over 50 years. The exchange of aerospace-oriented young people has continued successfully over this period because Association members share a set of common values that are embraced in the fundamental concept of 'leadership development with a global perspective.'
  2. In conducting its annual task, the Association broadens the international perspective of over 500 young adults by exchanging air cadets among its members. In this way:
    1. Cadets develop a more informed view of the challenges facing other nations.
    2. Cadets gain a deeper appreciation for the interdependent nature of technical development, security, economics, and political matters amongst countries.
    3. Initially held misconceptions and prejudices melt away when, during the Exchange, cadets, escorts, and participating host families become lifelong friends.
    The positive experiences and lessons learned by IACE participants last a lifetime.

Vision

  1. The premiere international exchange organization aspires to produce responsible aerospace leaders of tomorrow through air cadet exchanges and cultural education – offering leadership development with a global perspective.

Mission

  1. Our Mission is to serve our nations, member organizations, and participating cadets by conducting top quality exchanges of aerospace-minded young people that:
    1. Fosters international understanding, goodwill, and friendship among those involved.
    2. Promotes an interest in aviation and space, including highlighting career opportunities.
    3. Introduces cadets to the global nature of aerospace manufacturing.
    4. Provides cadets an insight into the essential interdependence of nations.
    5. Shares the values of cultural diversity, character development, and the potential of all young people to better themselves.

Objectives

  1. Increase the number of Association member nations:
    • Encourage at least 2 additional countries each year to participate in the annual Planning Conference, with a view to joining the Association.
    • Introduce South American nations such as Chile, Brazil, and Argentina.
  2. Promote the Association’s aims to members’ international civic organizations, as follows:
    • Each national organization gives at least one presentation a year, to a civic organization in their country, on the goals of the IACEA.
    • Establish an IACE ‘Alumni’ association in each country. Such an association could help the parent organization raise funds – to reduce costs to cadets, or subsidise hosting.
  3. Seek partnerships with other international organizations (civic, security, economic, political) that share similar values:
    • Consider approaching one international organization per year – for financial support, verbal endorsement and, gaining sponsorship through guest speakers and aggressive publicity.
    • Going further, EU or NATO ministerial sessions could be employed to obtain verbal endorsement of the Exchange as a premier youth initiative. That could give top-level support for parent organizations aiming to acquire national funding.
  4. Provide high quality national hosting programs that promote the Association’s mission, including at least one aerospace activity to emphasise developing technology.
